This colourless to pale yellow slightly oily liquid is insoluble in water and soluble in alcohol/ oil. Emitting a powerful earthy, tarry, mossy odour with sweet, dry and root-like notes, it is almost floral in extreme dilution. It is used in trace levels by perfumers as a direct odour preference or as a modifier.
