This colourless to pale yellow liquid is slightly oily, insoluble in water and soluble in alcohol/oil. Its odour is powerful and has strong woody and leather overtones, accompanied by a pleasant tobacco note. It is used in tobacco, chypre and fougere formulations in traces to 2% levels by perfumers as a direct odour preference or as a modifier.
